Chanctonbury Community Land Trust would like to thank everyone who took the time to complete our survey on the proposed Community Hub at the Thakeham Pre-School building on Abingworth Crescent. We received more than 120 responses, an excellent level of engagement that clearly demonstrates how much local residents care about the future of community facilities in Thakeham.
While Thakeham Parish Council decided not to proceed with the CCLT proposal, the survey provided valuable insights into the needs and priorities of our community. We are now using this feedback to shape future projects and are actively discussing opportunities with Thakeham Parish Council, Horsham District Council and other local organisations. What We Learned
The survey highlighted several clear priorities for local residents:
Early Years Education Matters
Residents strongly supported the continued use of the building for early years education and childcare provision, recognising its importance to local families.
More Opportunities for Young People
Many respondents felt that there is insufficient provision for young people in the village and called for more activities outside of school hours. Although the Pre-School building is not considered the best location for a youth club, the need is clear. CCLT will therefore work with Thakeham Parish Council, Horsham District Council and Thakeham Village Hall to explore how dedicated youth clubs and activities can be developed for local young people.
Support for an All-Weather Sports Pitch
One of the most popular suggestions was the creation of an all-weather football pitch. Existing facilities are heavily used and local demand exceeds available capacity. Working in partnership with Thakeham Parish Council, CCLT hopes to explore the feasibility of developing an all-weather pitch on the Abingworth playing field. Such a facility would not only meet a growing community need but could also generate income to support other local activities and services.
The message from residents was clear: there is strong support for improved community facilities, more opportunities for young people and investment in projects that will benefit Thakeham for years to come.
